Why it matters

Retirement design is changing.

Guided Retirement, Value for Money, Targeted Support and pensions dashboards are changing how retirement support, defaults and propositions are designed.

More is being asked of retirement design

The direction of travel is towards more active support, stronger defaults, clearer evidence of value and better customer journeys. That creates practical questions for trustees, providers and other professionals.

Guided Retirement

Default pensions move retirement design closer to the centre of governance.

DWP says Guided Retirement will ensure the vast majority of people are offered default pensions designed to provide a sustainable pension income, without the individual needing to make complex decisions unless they choose to do so.

Value for Money

Value is being made more visible, comparable and actionable.

The Value for Money framework increases focus on the value delivered to savers and on identifying arrangements that need to improve.

Pensions Dashboards

The system is getting better at showing people what they have.

Once people can see what they have more clearly, the next conversation is what matters to them in retirement.

Targeted Support

Support can now be designed for defined consumer segments.

The FCA targeted support regime allows ready-made suggestions for groups of consumers with common characteristics in defined circumstances.
